Shooting Rampage at Fort Hood: Why Did It Happen?
Military officials were starting Friday to piece together what may have pushed an Army psychiatrist trained to help soldiers in distress to turn on his comrades in a shooting rampage that killed 13 people and wounded 30 in Texas. Authorities raided the apartment of suspected shooter Major Nidal Malik Hasan early Friday in a search for clues, as another victim died from injuries suffered during the worst mass killing on a U.S. military base. GOP health-care reform cost: $61 billion, cut deficit $68 billion CBO director Douglas Elmendorf scored the new proposal from House Republicans on health-care reform and gave them plenty of ammunition to use against expansive and expensive Democratic plans for government takeovers. Their plan, which relies on interstate competition, HSAs, and tort reform, would only cost $61 billion in the first ten years of the plan or slightly less than 6% of what Democrats plan to spend to overhaul the entire system: A real plan The lack of any sort of executive branch leadership is astounding. The executive branch has simply passed all of its leadership responsibilities on to Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. It appears that the President believes that it is his job to read the teleprompter in support of what Nancy and Harry do. We don't have an executive branch, we have an official cheerleader for the farthest left elements of the Democratic party. Welcome to change you can believe in. Unemployment tops 10 pct for 1st time since '83 The unemployment rate has surpassed 10 percent for the first time since 1983 and is likely to go higher. Counting those who have settled for part-time jobs or stopped looking for work, the unemployment rate would be 17.5 percent, the highest on records dating from 1994. The jobless rate rose from 9.8 percent in September. We are right on the brink "We are right on the brink," said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. "We have an historic opportunity for us to again provide quality health care for all Americans. It is something that many of us have worked our whole political lifetimes on." ACORN's Big Spender Internal ACORN documents show that Gaspard gave ACORN $40,000 over the past two years. Specifically, while Gaspard worked as an executive vice president of Service Employees International Union Local 1199 in New York he gave ACORN $15,000 in 2007 and $25,000 in 2008. That's an awfully large tithe for someone who made $111,894 in 2007 and who has a wife and two children. The $111,894 figure comes from SEIU 1199's most recent publicly available tax return. (If salary and deferred benefits are combined the total is $151,869.) Senate panel approves Democratic climate bill WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee on Thursday approved a Democratic climate change bill that would require industry to cut emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases 20 percent by 2020 from 2005 levels. With Republicans boycotting the committee's work saying more analysis of the legislation was needed, 10 Democrats voted to approve the legislation and one Democrat, Senator Max Baucus, voted against it. Voters to Pols: Give Us Jobs, Results, Not Spats Voters' memo to politicians: We're angry and fearful, mostly about jobs and the economy. We want tangible solutions, not partisan bickering or intraparty spats. And we'll vote either party out of office if we don't think you're listening. Senate Acts to Extend Aid for Jobless, Homebuyers Recognizing that a weak economy still needs a government boost, the Senate voted overwhelmingly Wednesday to provide the jobless with up to 20 weeks in additional unemployment benefits and expand a first-time homebuyer tax credit to include a far larger pool of people entering the dormant housing market. Three Senators Out To Rescue Climate Bill A trio of senators with different political views launched a rescue effort Wednesday for troubled climate legislation. Sen. John Kerry, Massachusetts Democrat -- together with Sen. Lindsey Graham, South Carolina Republican, and Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman, Connecticut independent -- announced that they would work in conjunction with the White House to patch together a bill that could pass the U.S. Senate Left Lashes Out at ‘V’, Obama-Friendly ABC Purges Showrunner. Was this a case of ABC purging a political dissident from the show to make it more politically subservient? ABC has been very pro-Obama. And while the president’s name is never mentioned once in the show, there’s little doubt what they’re getting at. Critics of the "V" aliens are shown to be viewed as wackos and fringe people, the same way the MSM likes to portray ordinary Americans who don’t drink the kOOl-aid. Journalists who question the motives of the V are treated like they’re "not real news". Wink! Planned Parenthood's abortion quotas exposed "There are definitely client goals," former clinic director Abby Johnson said. "We'd have a goal every month for abortion clients and for family planning clients." Pelosi wants a Saturday vote for her ObamaCare bill As of Wednesday, House leaders didn’t appear to have secured the 218 votes they need to pass the bill. They were moving to quickly swear in two Democrats elected Tuesday, which would give the party 258 seats in the House and allow leaders to lose as many as 40 Democratic votes without losing their majority. No Republicans are expected to vote for the bill. Beck Struck By Appendicitis Attack "Before going under Glenn asked the doctor to draw out the surgery procedure on a blackboard," joked Balfe. Beck is expected to make a full recovery and return to both his radio and TV shows soon. The Greatest Scam on Earth In 2000 Al Gore was a failed Presidential candidate with a paltry 2 million dollars to his name. Not a lot of money for a guy whose lavish mansion gobbles up almost a 150,000 dollars in electric utilities annually alone, and that of course is before property taxes and all the other costs of owning a home in Belle Meade, which has one of the region’s highest costs of living. Anti-Beck, Dobbs Efforts Dropped by Church Coalition Glenn Beck news, Lou Dobbs news, Rush news, Fox news, George Soros news and yes, you knew this had to be in the mix somewhere: ACORN news. Italian Court Convicts 23 Americans in CIA Extraordinary Rendition Case An Italian judge says he has convicted 23 Americans of the 2003 kidnapping of an Egyptian cleric from a Milan street in a CIA extraordinary rendition. Twenty-two of the convicted Americans were immediately sentenced to five years in jail at the end of the nearly three-year trial. The other convicted American, Milan CIA station chief Robert Seldon Lady, was given the stiffest sentence, eight years in prison. All of the Americans were tried in absentia. Top Dems: Obama Won't Get Health Care Bill in 2009 Senior Congressional Democrats told ABC News today it is highly unlikely that a health care reform bill will be completed this year, just a week after President Barack Obama declared he was "absolutely confident" he'll be able to sign one by then. Al Gore could become world's first carbon billionaire Few people have been as vocal about the urgency of global warming and the need to reinvent the way the world produces and consumes energy as Mr Gore. And few have put as much money behind their advocacy and are as well positioned to profit from this green transformation, if and when it comes. America smiles again Republican gubernatorial wins in New Jersey and Virginia brought Hope & Change, We the People style, to a nation whose well touted transformation is being forced on millions of Americans who clearly demonstrate that they don’t want it. The Obama magic has faded All politics is local, they say, and Tuesday’s off-off-year elections certainly had their local angles. Jon Corzine has been a terrible governor even by the undemanding standards of terribly governed New Jersey. Creigh Deeds, though he looked good to Democratic Party recruiters not long ago, turned out to be an undistinguished campaigner, more driven by the concerns of Washington Post editorialists than of Virginia voters. And NY-23 Republican nomineee Dede Scozzafava was a bizarre choice, bizarre enough to inspire a seemingly quixotic third-party run by Doug Hoffman. Russia 'Simulates' Nuclear Attack on Poland The timing here is beautiful. The exercises reportedly transpired during the 70th anniversary of the Russian invasion of Poland... also the same day that President Obama killed plans for Polish based missile defense. Republican Party Identity Politics: A Lesson from the Failed Scozzafava Campaign American women have all these things, yet there is a notable lack of women, both Democrat and Republican, in national political office. Why? Well, the job is demanding as hell and requires extended periods of separation, for one. Another reason: I’ll call it Sarah Palin Syndrome. Women, especially conservative women, are chewed up by the media. (This also happens to women bloggers. Radicals on the Run? How many more Maoists and Van Jones-style radicals are in the Obama administration? Some White House aides are concerned about the radicals in the House, and wonder if it's not too late to show them the side door at midnight. About Last Night Tonight’s resounding Democratic defeats in Virginia and New Jersey came as the result of a unified effort, and a candidate who heartily embraced conservative values won the largest margin. Such success should serve as a cautionary tale to Congress and the White House, whose overreach on health care could cause them to meet a similar demise. |
